That's a great question.

While for some customers, we highly recommend the sediment filter based on their water source, it will never hurt to have one!

If you're not sure whether or not you need one, here are some things to consider.

If you live in a city or in an area with high sediment, then it's a great idea to get one. It will help your other filters to last longer as it will catch the sediment that would otherwise clog your filter.

If you live in area that has a high risk or history of wildfires, then it's a great idea to get one. Wildfires deposit a lot of sediment into local water sources that eventually end up in our drinking water. 

If you would like your other filter (whether that be our Smart Shield filter or one of our pitcher/dispenser filters) to last longer, then it's a great idea to get one.

Of course, it will never hurt to have it, and if you decide it makes sense for you then you can always install it later.
